Overview
This STEP is OPTIONAL - You may proceed to the next step if you do not wish to create or assign product categories to your Product IDs at this time. This may be done at a later time.
The product categories list is the taxonomy of different types of products used for filtering and summarizing lists in the user interface and reports printed to PDF or exported to Excel.
Here is an example list for a company selling food:
Meat Poultry Vegetables Fruit Deli Dairy
You can make the product categories anything you want. Some companies have a list of 10 or so categories. Other companies have as many as 70 or 80.
Add Product Categories for filtering your products on the Stock view and Product view – Application Settings>Product tab
- Categories must be created before they can be associated to a product id. You cannot import a category that is not in the category list.
- Products cannot be associated to more than one Category.
- There are no Sub-Categories, but you can create your own sub-category type filtering fields by creating a custom field with a picklist type, and creating a list of values to filter your products.
