IF you are using the 1. Sync feature on the scanner, this article is not for you. This article is only for wired connections to the PC. IF you are NOT using the WiFi version or access method, a great option is to convert to and use the WiFi version and method of connecting and syncing with the scanner. No USB cable or docking station or WMDC software, or Windows PC is required. All you need is the Finale Data Collector software installed on the handheld unit. If you bought it from our preferred hardware provider they pre-install this software and you are ready to go. If you did not use our preferred hardware provider you must connect the scanner to a Windows PC with a USB cable to install the software.
If you are using a USB cable and docking station or cradle to connect and sync your mobile barcode scanner to your Windows PC and you get the following message on the Finale Inventory Add-ons & Integrations screen:
This means your scanner is not communicating properly with Windows.
VERY IMPORTANT - You must remove any cell phones that may be plugged into any of your PC's USB ports. These types of devices will prevent Finale Inventory from communicating with the mobile barcode scanner. IF you have any PHONE device plugged into a USB port on your PC, please remove it and see if it resolves your problem.
Try these steps.
1. Open Windows Mobile Device Center(WMDC) and check the connection status between your scanner and your Windows PC.
If it says not connected your windows PC is having problems communicating with the scanner.
Make sure WMDC is not waiting for you to close a dialog box about outlook or email:
This dialog popups and is often hidden behind other open windows on your PC. Click Ok, and check the connection status in the WMDC and if it shows Connected or Connecting, your problem may be solved.
If WMDC does not run or is not open, try running it manually from the Windows Start menu. If you cannot find it on the Windows Start menu, try searching for it in the Windows Seach box: type "WMDC"
IF you cannot find WMDC to launch it, it may not be installed on your computer. Check your Windows Control Panel, Installed Programs menu to see if it is installed. If it is is not installed, you may download and install it from here:
Repeat steps above after installing if you still have problems.
If you know WMDC is installed and it will not launch or run or crashes it is possible a recent Windows 10 Update has broken/disabled WMDC, follow this advice:
A Recent Microsoft Windows Update pushed out by Microsoft has broken Windows Mobile Device Center, which is what windows uses to communicate to the scanner over the USB cable/dock.
To fix this problem you will need to conduct the following:
1) Uninstall Windows Mobile Device Center AND any Mcafee/3rd party virus scanner (then Restart PC)
2) Re-Install Windows Mobile Device Center - https://www.microsoft.com/en-u
3) Download this file, save to your desktop, right-click and select "Run as Administrator" (once Complete, Restart the Computer) - https://drive.google.com/fi
4) Once rebooted, RESET the Mobile Scanner Pressing and holding the W key and C key down and while holding those two keys down, press and release the Red power button.
Then Dock the scanner and it should connect.
IF you WMDC is running and shows Not Connected:
Try a Hard BOOT Reset of the scanner - On the scanner, Press and hold "W" key and the "C" key and while holding both of those keys down, also press and release the Red power button for the scanner. The screen will go dark and the scanner will reboot. Once it completes the reboot, check the connection status in the WMDC and if it shows Connected or Connecting, your problem may be solved. Here is a video illustrating a Hard Boot/Reset.
IF the reset does not fix your connection problem, then take a look at the Advanced network settings option on the scanner - On the scanner, from the Windows Start menu, go to Settings(the gear icon). Then go to Connections, then open USB to PC. Uncheck the Enable advanced network functionality option, press OK or the X button on the dialog. Check the connection status in WMDC, if it shows Connected or Connecting, your problem may be solved. Here is a video illustrating this setting change.
If you still cannot resolve the Not Connected status in the WMDC dialog, you may have a Firewall or Antivirus program blocking communications with the USB device. Check your security program's settings and authorize the communications, disable the software, or uninstall it. Contact your system and network administrator personnel for advice or assistance on how to proceed.
