Overview
This step is OPTIONAL - You may proceed to the next step if you do not wish to create or assign product categories to your Product IDs at this time. This step can be completed at a later point if needed.
The product categories list is the taxonomy of different types of products used for filtering and summarizing products in the user interface, as well as reports printed to PDF or exported to Excel.
You can configure your product categories by going to Applications Settings > Product and navigating to the section titled Product Categories:
- Product categories can be anything you want. You can also include as many product categories as you would like.
- Categories must be created before they can be associated to a product ID. You cannot import or associate a product to a Category that is not in the Category list.
- Products cannot be associated to more than one Category.
- There is not an option for sub-categories, but you can create your own sub-category field by creating a custom field with a Pick List type, and creating a list of values to filter your products. Please see this help article for more information: How are custom fields for products created?
Here is an example category list for a company selling food products:
Meat Poultry Vegetables Fruit Deli Dairy
